BBC Weather forecast: UK set for 'lots of SUNSHINE' as May Bank Holiday HEATWAVE hits
BBC WEATHER has forecast “lots of sunshine” for the UK over the May Bank Holiday weekend as a scorching weather system sweeps across the country.
BBC weather forecast claims southernly and south-easterly winds, as well as high pressure, will combine rocket temperatures into the low 20C’s,
Tropical air from southern Europe and North Africa is expected to sweep in ahead of the weekend bringing warmer weather.
BBC Weather forecaster Stav Danaos said: “For Friday it is a north-west south-east split, high pressure dominating the south, so here largely dry, sunny spells and feeling quite warm.
“Stronger winds for Scotland, Northern Ireland and particularly western Scotland, where we will see outbreaks of rain because of a weather system there.

“Across the south-east, we could be seeing temperatures of 18C or 19C.
“It gets warmer still going into the Bank Holiday weekend all thanks to high pressure and southernly, south-easterly winds, so that could see the low 20C and lots of sunshine.”
Some forecasters have claimed the warmer temperatures could remain in the UK well into next week.
Exacta weather forecaster James Madden said: “We are about to see a gradual transition to some much better weather.
It gets warmer still going into the Bank Holiday weekend
“A warmer and more settled pattern will start to establish in time for the Bank Holiday weekend and is likely to become a dominant feature for several days at the very least.
“This could see temperatures ranging from the low to mid 20Cs quite widely.
“A small nudge in the right direction could even see 30C (86F) or more being breached in parts of the south within this period.”
The Met Office weather forecast for Thursday to Saturday reads: “A north-south split will develop; staying more unsettled across the northwest with some rain and stronger winds at times.
“Remaining drier in the south and becoming warmer day-by-day, particularly inland.”
The Met Office added that “many areas will be dry with warm sunny spells on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.”
Leading bookmaker Ladbrokes have slashed odds on this month becoming the hottest May on record to 9/4.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "With the pollen bomb reaching its peak, it's no surprise to see punters looking to cash in on this month breaking weather records."
