MPPSC violates norms, gives ad for Ambedkar varsity assistant professor’s recruitment

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) has advertised 52 posts for recruitment of assistant professors in Dr BR Ambedkar University of Social Sciences against the norms. According to university statute, the PSC which recruits staff for the government jobs cannot recruit professors for the varsities and the advertisement was issued in violation of the rules.

Former additional director (higher education) RB Sharma told Free Press, “It requires some amendments in the constitution so that the PSC can conduct recruitment to the post of non-state cadre.” Besides, the state PSC amended the advertisement for the recruitment of around 3,422 teachers in degree colleges across the state on April 25. It also added those 52 posts as the fourth part to the advertisement meant for recruiting professors for Ambedkar University.

Registrar of one of the universities in Bhopal requesting anonymity said, “The State Universities Act has to be amended so that MPPSC may recruit faculty members in any institution.” The amendment proposal should also be passed through the evolution committee, the executive council and the academic council of the university, he said.

“Besides, there should be amendments in the rules mentioning powers and work of PSC,” the registrar said. One-time relaxation in recruitment rules-1990 says there should be an interview after the written test, but state ended the interview in recruitment for the 52 posts 15 days ago. In reply to a question raised by RTI Activist DP Singh on April 6, the MPPSC said, “The MPPSC doesn’t conduct the exams for recruitment in any university and aid-in institutions.” The PSC further said MPPSC had advertised the 52 posts to meet the demand of the higher education department.
