Varanasi: 5 smugglers arrested, Ganja worth Rs 30 lakh seized

Varanasi: A special task force unit in Varanasi busted an inter-state gang of smugglers by arresting five of them in Chandauli district late on Monday.
The STF also recovered 351kg ganja worth Rs 30 lakh from their possession.

The contraband was smuggled from Odisha. The arrested persons have been booked under section 8/20 of NDPS Act

According to reports, acting on a tip off, the STF team caught a truck (OR 09 G 7179) near Panchpedwa flyover around 12.40am. The packets of ganja were being unloaded from the truck to supply them to various districts through cars. The STF succeeded in nabbing five members including their kingpin Sudhir Singh of Buxur (Bihar), Pradeep Yadav, Shailendra Singh, both from Ghazipur district, Munni Lal alias Ravi from Odisha and Atul Singh of Jaunpur district.

During interrogation, they confided that they had been smuggling ganja from Odisha quite frequently. The smuggled ganja was supplied to various districts including Varanasi, Jaunpur, Chandauli and Ghazipur.
