Randhawa convenes meeting of Jail dept today

To have a first-hand knowledge of the ground realities aimed at carrying out reforms in the jail department, Punjab Jail Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has convened a meeting of the higher officials as well as all Jail Superintendents on May 1, Tuesday.

The meeting would see the attendance by the higher officers of the department including ADGP Jails, IG Jails, DIGs of ranges and all the jail superintendents.

Spokesperson said that the Minister, after assuming the charge, had visited Patiala Central Jail recently and would be apprised of the functioning of the entire department through the meeting which would be held at Markfed office in Chandigarh.

The meeting was called a day after four mobiles, 31 cigarette packets, illicit liquor was found in inside the premises of Amritsar Central Jail.

However, instances of recovering mobile phones and other prohibited materials have come to light time and again from the jail inmates. Only recently, the jail authorities had recovered 1,790 bundles of cigarettes, 32 packets of tobacco and two mobile phones during a search operation.
