A prisoner escaped from a work detail in DeBary on Monday, causing an Orange City hospital and some other businesses to be locked down for hours.

Trayvion Stephens eluded Volusia County sheriff's deputies all afternoon and into the evening.

Deputies with police dogs, including bloodhounds from Tomoka Correctional Institution, searched for Stephens, 19, who escaped around 12:10 p.m. from a work detail at 26 Florence Boulevard in DeBary.

Shortly after 3:15 p.m. the Sunrise Academy preschool and the Lady Bird Academy learning center were told that they could end the lockdown. Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City lifted its lockdown around 5 p.m., authorities said.

Stephens was in the Volusia County Branch Jail for misdemeanor trespassing, said sheriff's spokeswoman Laura Williams. He was last seen wearing a lime-green shirt with the letters VCDC on it with dark green pants.

Court records show Stephens was initially arrested with burglary of a structure, but the charge was later reduced to trespassing.

According to a Sheriff's Office report, Stephens was one of five people arrested Feb. 24, 2017, in a Deltona burglary.

One of those arrested, Vincent Shalkowitz, confessed to the burglary and provided the names of his accomplices, sheriff's investigators said.

Stephens thought that another member of the group "snitched" on them and contacted her through Instagram and told her he wanted the girl to make a video saying she lied about Stephens being them at the time of the burglary, a  report states.

Anyone with information about Stephens’ whereabouts is asked to call 9-1-1.
