Governor applauds T.N.’s feat in healthcare

Honours 15 doctors for excellence

A robust infrastructure and specialised medical care provided by doctors and paramedical staff were among the important reasons for a large number of people coming to Tamil Nadu for medical treatment, Governor Banwarilal Purohit said.

He was speaking at the Second Annual Medical Excellence Award ceremony, organised by the World Tamil Chamber of Commerce.

Lauding the Tamil Nadu model as the best prototype healthcare delivery system in resource-limited settings that could be emulated by other States, the Governor said it was important to make healthcare comprehensive, universal, affordable and qualitatively professional.

“For achieving this objective, the road ahead is going to be complex and arduous. It is only medical experts such as the award winners of today who can show the way for us to be successful in our mission,” he said, after presenting the awards to 15 doctors.

Directory released

Mr. Purohit also released a ‘Medical Excellence Award directory.’ He conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award on V. Shanta, executive chairman, Cancer Institute.

Health Minister C. Vijaya Bhaskar recalled the initiatives taken by the State and the investments made in government hospitals.
