Tiruchi gets its 8th open gym

One more open gym with walking platform was declared open in Tiruchi on Monday, taking the number of open gyms in the city to eight.

Minister for Tourism Vellamandi N. Natarajan inaugurated the open gym at Thennur on Anna Nagar link road in a function. Minister for Backward Classes and Minority Welfare S. Valarmathi, Member of Parliament P. Kumar, Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran and senior officials participated in the function.

The walking platform, which is constructed along the Uyyakondam canal, has been named after King Raja Raja Cholan, who built the canal about 1,000 years ago. The gym has been set up at an estimate of ₹45 lakh.

It has 13 equipment and facilities for relaxation and drinking water have also been established.

The city has open gyms on Vayalur Road, Central Bus Stand, Kalmettu Street in Srirangam, Chinnasamy and Mahatma Gandhi Park, Thillai Nagar Park and Burma Colony.

Earlier, the Ministers inaugurated the Tiruchi city Corporation's own nursery at Ambedkar Nagar in Srirangam. A sum of ₹21 lakh has been spent for setting up the nursery.
