Heavy rain lashed Coimbatore, and the Nilgiris on Monday night.

It resulted in uprooting of trees and snapping of power lines. Many parts of Coimbatore witnessed disruption of power supply.

A total of 228 mm of rainfall was recorded in the district. The highest of 45 mm was recorded at Annur and the lowest of 3 mm at Pollachi.

In the Nilgiris 348.50 mm was recorded. The highest of 70.50 mm was recorded at Udhagamandalam, and lowest of 2 mm at Kinnakorai.

Officials said that they were verifying reports relating to the death of an 80-year-old woman at Kollapalli, near Negamam, reportedly due to collapse of house, and injuries to Kalamani (40) of Kuppanur in Annur, when an asbestos roof hit her while she was fast asleep.

Siruvani reservoir that takes care of the city’s drinking water witnessed a rainfall of 12 mm.

Heavy rain in Udhagamandalam town led to a wall collapsing and damaging a car and three motorcycles in Khandal on Tuesday morning.

The district administration stated that around 70 mm of rainfall was recorded in Udhagamandalam town on Monday night and Tuesday morning, while a total of 348 mm was recorded across the district.
