Students should be taught culture: Guv

The Uttarakhand Governor Krishan Kant Paul said that even at the school level, students should be taught well about the country’s history and its cultural values.They should know about the social life, art, culture and philosophy of India.

The Governor was talking to the students of the Doon School who made a courtesy call on him at Raj Bhawan on Monday. He said that reading books other than text books was very important to broaden one’s horizons of knowledge. Stating that the information from the internet was not a source of wisdom, he stressed on the need for reading good books.

He said that students can organise programmes related to cleanliness, respecting women and awareness regarding road accidents. He said that violence against women was shameful and a change of mentality needs to be brought in besides the laws. Boys should be taught to respect girls and women right from childhood. If they are taught to respect their mothers and sisters, they will learn to respect all girls and women.

He also stressed the need for learning road safety and being aware about cleanliness.

The Governor also asked the students about Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines.
