Rowdy-sheeter murder case solved, four held

‘Vexed with harassment, accused decided to kill Mahesh’

The police arrested four persons for their alleged involvement in the murder of a rowdy-sheeter Suvvada Mahesh, here on Monday.

Mahesh, among the prime accused in the alleged murder of another rowdy-sheeter Gedala Raju, was reportedly killed on April 17 near Pithapuram Colony in the city.

According to police, Mahesh was reportedly killed due to old rivalry with a few of his friends and associates.

The four accused have been identified as S. Narayana Rao, an auto driver; his nephew R. Manikanta, a meat vendor; N. Nani Kumar, a friend of the deceased and who was twice threatened by Mahesh in the past over the Gedela Raju murder and M. Ravi Kumar, a local financier.

Motive for murder

“All the accused were the victims of Mahesh’s harassment and repeated threats for various reasons. During the investigation, the four accused had confessed that they had committed the murder with a pre-planned sketch with the financial assistance of Nani and Ravi Kumar,” said Dwaraka ACP P. Rama Chandar Rao, while producing the accused before the media at III Town Police station on Monday.

Mahesh, along with his two friends Kannan and Anand, came to the city for medical treatment from Vizianagaram on April 17.

At around 10 pm, he met Narayana and Manikanta at Maddilapalem and had a liquor party at Pithapuram Colony market.

Narayana then sent back Kannan and Anand under some pretext and attacked Mahesh with a knife.

He stabbed Mahesh on his stomach, while Manikanta hit Mahesh on his head with an iron rod before both the accused fled away from the spot.

Later, Malla Ravi and Nani Kumar visited the spot and took photographs of Mahesh’s body which was lying in a pool of blood.

The police had confirmed the participation of Malla Ravi and Nani Kumar, who had promised arranging for bail to Narayana and Manikanta in favour for committing the murder.
