Boy succumbs to burns

In a tragic incident, a 12-year-old boy succumbed to burns from an LPG gas cylinder blast at his residence in Surangal village, five km from Moinabad town.

According to Moinabad police, the incident took place on Friday afternoon when Chakali Sandeep attempted to light the stove to heat food as he was alone at home.

But on failing to find a lighter, he left the stove on and went in search of a matchbox, Moinabad Inspector S. Sunitha said. He returned with a lighted candle and entered the room, which was already occupied with LPG gas as the gas was turned on. “As he tried to light the stove with a candle, the gas caught the fire and the room went up in the flames. Due to the impact, the boy was thrown out of the kitchen,” police said.

Ms. Sunitha said that Sandeep was studying in Class VI in a private school in Surangal village and his father C. Ravinder was a washerman and agriculture labour.

Sandeep was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Nanalnagar and later shifted to Gandhi Hospital, where he succumbed to burns on Saturday.

Police said that the incident came to light only on Saturday night and a case was registered.
