Five people were arrested here for allegedly accepting and laying bets on an Indian Premier League game, police said today.
Assistant Inspector Santosh Manwar of Yavatmal police's Crime Branch said that, based on a tip-off, they raided a house in the weekly market area of Pandharkawda locality here yesterday night.
"During the raid, we found the five accused comprising the racket operator, his partner and three punters, accepting and laying bets on the IPL game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore," Manwar said.
He said that police seized 10 mobile recorders and receivers, 14 mobile phones, a laptop and television, calculators, ledgers and Rs 8,110 in cash.
He said that the owner of the house that was raided, Abhinav alias Guddu Dilip Rai, his business partner Ravi Borele, and three others, Sunil Kalyan Sulgewar (37), Ravi Khillumal Dumba (30) and Sagar Kalidas Vyas (26) were arrested.
Manwar said that a case had been registered at Pandharkawda police station under relevant sections of the Bombay Prevention of Gambling Act and the Indian Penal Code and further investigations were underway.
