Tension resurfaces in Phagwara

Keeping in view to restore peace in the disturbed town Phagwara a meeting of various sections of the society called by Commissioner Jalandhar Division Raj Kamal Chaudhary and Inspector General of Police Zonal Naunihal Singh at Community Hall of Municipal Corporation on Thursday afternoon was postponed to Friday evening.

The trouble arose when representatives of General Samaj Manch led by Local President Vijay Sharma Advocate, reached in meeting hall but could not found a single vacant chair for them .

They waited for few minutes and and came out from the hall and started their separate meeting in the office of Asstt Commissioner MC. Meanwhile after arranging the extra chairs they were asked to attend the meeting and even Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala Mohammad Tayab, Senior Superintendent of the Police Sandeep Sharma along with ADC Babita Kaler and SDM Jyoti Bala administration went to them to convince them to come to attend the meeting but the GSM activists felt humiliated and refused to attend the meeting.

Meanwhile the representatives of Dalits got angry and provoked and walked out from the meeting and alleged that GSM leaders did not want to attend the meeting intentionally whereas GSM leaders denied and said they did not agree to go in meeting hall due to insufficient arrangements of the chairs by the administration. After long altercation among various leaders the said meeting was postponed to Friday. The meeting would now be held at 1700 hours on Friday in Community Hall of MC Phagwara said Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhary. He appealed to the people to maintain peace and communal harmony which is the dire need of the hour.

On the other hand though the constant demands of both communities to exclude the names of innocent persons from the list of those around 300 persons including

32 bynames booked by the police under relevant sections of IPC .
