Akamai Technologies Inc. shares rose more than 4% in after-hours trading Monday following an earnings report that showed better-than-expected financial performance. The software company reported net income of $54 million, or 31 cents a share, on sales of $669 million, up from $600 million a year ago. After adjusting for stock-based compensation and other effects, the company claimed profit of 79 cents a share, up from 65 cents a share a year ago. Analysts on average had expected adjusted earnings of 70 cents a share on sales of $657 million, according to FactSet. Akamai stock increased a little more than 4% after the earnings were released Monday afternoon, following a close with a 0.8% gain at $71.65.
