J.T. Barrett may not have been selected in the NFL Draft, but he's certainly demanding attention from NFL teams after it.
After reportedly joining the Indianapolis Colts for their rookie minicamp, Barrett is now joining the New Orleans Saints for a try out in their rookie minicamp. Both teams have their minicamps scheduled for Mother's Day weekend, meaning the Rider grad can't attend both. Barrett has only been invited to partake in a rookie minicamp by both teams. He has not signed an official contract.
Multiple sources on Twitter said Barrett had agreed to join the Colts after the draft was completed Saturday. The Ohio State football Twitter account announced he'd be attending the Saints camp instead late Monday morning.
The Saints do have less competition to make an NFL roster than the Colts, although both teams are sound with their starters and backups.
The Colts have Andrew Luck returning after he missed all of 2017 with a shoulder injury. He will be backed up by Jacob Brissett, who the Colts traded for early last season. The Colts also had former Miami Hurricane Brad Kaaya and Phillip Walker, an undrafted free agent from 2017, on the roster.
The Saints have future hall-of-famer Drew Brees entrenched at starter with veteran Tom Savage slotted as his backup. The only other quarterback on the roster is former BYU signal-caller Taysom Hill, who profiles very similarly to Barrett. Both players are considered scramblers with their legs as their greatest weapon. Hill also went undrafted last season.
Barrett broke 32 Ohio State and six Big Ten records during his four seasons with the Buckeyes. He was part of the team's national championship run in 2014 and the only Buckeye to be chosen team captain three times in the program's illustrious history.
Barrett finished his career completing 63.5 percent of his passes for 9,434 yards, 104 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. He also rushed for 3,263 yards and 43 touchdowns.
