BCCI top panel asks Supreme Court to name administrators to run MCA

The Maharashtra Cricket Association is likely to go the Mumbai Cricket Association way with court-appointed administrators taking over the running of the body.

In its eighth status report submitted to the Supreme Court, the BCCI’s Committee of Administrators (CoA) has requested the court to appoint administrators to govern MCA and ensure the association adheres to the Lodha panel recommendations.

CoA has also called for strict action against MCA for contempt of court. The status report said: “The first appeal is to initiating appropriate action, including contempt, against Maharashtra CA and such other persons at whose instance the amended constitution has been approved during the Special General Meeting of Maharashtra Cricket Association held on April 7, 2018.”

The CoA has sought action because the amended constitution submitted by MCA substantially deviates from the Justice Lodha panel recommendations on the Board’s reform.

MCA secretary Riyaz Bagwan had sent circulars to district units stating that elections would be conducted on May 2 as per the newly amended constitution conforming to Lodha Committee recommendations. However, the CoA declared the proposed elections null and void.

In its 17-page status report, COA’s second plea said: “Appoint a separate Committee of Administrators for taking charge of the Maharashtra CA and ensure that its constitution is brought in terms with the report of the Hon’ble Justice Lodha Committee and judgement dated July 18, 2016, passed by this Hon’ble Court.”
