When is Better Call Saul season 4 released on Netflix?

Netflix and AMC haven’t set an airdate for season four of Better Call Saul just yet.

However, the Breaking Bad spin-off is expected to be hitting screens later in 2018.

Better Call Saul seasons have previously premiered in February and the last run began airing in April but season four looks like it’s going to take a bit longer with production still underway at the moment.

Back in January it was announced that filming on the forthcoming run had started at the show’s base in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Writer Peter Gould posted a photo of a Better Call Saul clapperboard on Twitter, accompanied by the caption: “We are..... rolling!!! #BetterCallSaul #Season4 #ABQ.”

Going by previous production times for Better Call Saul, it looks like the earliest fans might be able to watch the beloved drama will be September.

When the show does return it will be aired in America on US network AMC and episodes will then be dropped on Netflix on a weekly basis.

Season four is expected to have 10 episodes just like the previous runs.

Why is there a delay on Better Call Saul season 4?

Better Call Saul season four only got the green light in June 2017, shortly after the third outing had ended transmission.

Therefore, the writers had to wait for confirmation before beginning work on the new episodes.

Writing the scripts is likely to have had a knock-on effect on the filming which couldn’t begin until the storylines were finalised.

In contrast, season two was confirmed even before the first outing had aired which gave the writers lots of time to plot out the show.

Other factors that may have delayed season four could include the scale of production as the story expands out and moves closer to the events of Breaking Bad.

Co-creator Vince Gilligan has already suggested that season four is going to see a shift in tone.

He previously told The Independent: “If you think of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul in terms of a Venn diagram, the overlap is getting bigger and bigger, and therefore Better Call Saul is getting darker in season four.”

There have also been hints that the worlds of Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad will be colliding more after a very familiar van was spotted on the set of season four.

While actor Giancarlo Esposito - who is better known as Gus Fring - said: “The difference is that we are now before Breaking Bad and we are really starting to see what made Gus Fring who he is. For me that has been a wonderful exploration.”

The actor recently made an appearance in an episode of Westworld season two, sending fans into meltdown.

Also, Walter White star Bryan Cranston has hinted that fans may get to see his character again.

He told The Guardian: “would I entertain being on Better Call Saul? Yes. It’s a fresh story, tonally different and I love it.”

On top of that Aaron Paul, who portrays Jesse Pinkman, was pictured on set and could be in the new episodes.
