A trial date has been set in the case of a University Heights man accused of purposely causing an Eastlake man’s death in a July 4 crash in Willoughby Hills.

Michael B. Davis, 39, had been driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta westbound on Route 6 (Chardon Road) west of Route 174 (River Road) around 1:30 p.m.

For unknown reasons, the Jetta went left of center, striking the driver’s side of a 2009 Honda Civic driven by 26-year-old Gregory Morawski, according to police.

The Civic was pushed off the road, and Morawski was pronounced dead at the scene.

Davis and Heather Culp, Morawski’s 26-year-old passenger, were transported to Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights.

Davis is scheduled to go on trial July 9 before Lake County Common Pleas Judge Eugene A. Lucci.

He is charged with three counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and four counts of felonious assault.

Davis is out of jail after posting 10 percent of a $250,000 bond.

Conditions of bond include no driving other than for medical and psychological appointments, to continue psychiatric treatment and to take prescribed medications.

The defendant is being electronically monitored on house arrest by GPS.

Lake County Prosecutor Charles Coulson previously said he does not believe Davis knew the victims.
