Two new county judges have been officially sworn in recently to the bench in Volusia County.
A. Christian Miller was formally sworn in on Friday as his wife, Katherine Hurst Miller, and daughter Elizabeth and stood at his side. He was appointed Feb. 9 by Gov. Rick Scott to fill the vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Steven Henderson to a circuit seat.
Miller, who earned his law degree from Stetson College of Law, is presiding over civil cases at the Volusia County Courthouse in DeLand. County Judge Chris Kelly administered the oath to Miller at the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art in Daytona Beach.
County Judge David A. Cromartie was sworn in on April 6 as his wife Tonya Cromartie stood next to him at the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach. Like Miller, Cromartie was appointed to the Volusia County bench in Feb. 9 by Gov. Rick Scott. Cromartie presides over civil cases at the Volusia County Courthouse Annex at City Island. Cromartie, who received his law degree from the University of Florida, was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Shirley Green.
