A grand ceremony was held on Saturday to mark the opening of the resort, an integrated entertainment destination at Haitang Bay.

It is owned by Fosun Group and managed by Kerzner International. It features over 80,000 marine species in its own aquarium and a large number of ocean-themed activities.

Guo Guangchang, chairman of the board of Fosun is optimistic about the fact that Sanya would lure more international tourists and emerge as a high-quality, family-friendly destination with an aim to promote development of the tourism industry of the island.

In a trial operation the resort opened part of its facilities to travellers during the Spring Festival holiday in February.

From 1st May, tourists from 59 countries will have visa-free access to Hainan. Hainan received more than 67 million tourists last year, up 12% from the previous year.
