Stetson rallied for six runs in the fifth inning and went on to hammer out a season-high 17 hits in a 12-4 victory over host North Florida.

The Hatters (34-11, 9-3 ASUN) won their seventh straight over UNF (19-22, 4-8) and moved into sole possession of first place in the conference.

Freshman Eric Foggo led the Hatters with a a two-run single in the fifth inning, a three-run home run in the seventh and an RBI single in the ninth. Andrew MacNeil, hitting leadoff for the first time in his career, also had three hits.

Sophomore left-hander Mitchell Senger (6-2) earned the win despite working just five innings. He allowed three runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

UNF starter Brad Deppermann (0-4) took the loss, allowing six runs — but just one earned — on eight hits over 4.2 innings of work.

Miami 11, (14) FSU 5

Florida State coach Mike Martin will have to wait to break the all-tine wins record after Miami (18-25, 11-13 ACC) upset the Seminoles (31-14, 13-10). Martina remains at 1,975 wins. Starting pitcher Andrew Karp left after just four outs due to a sickness. Jonah Scolaro (1-1) was the first of five relief pitchers for the Seminoles, allowing Isaac Quinones’ three-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Hurricanes the lead for good.

NC A&T 8, B-CU 5

Danny Rodriguez belted his seventh home run, a three-run shot to left field, as Bethune-Cookman (18-27, 12-9 MEAC) fell to host North Carolina A&T (24-20, 11-6). Isaak Gutierrez (0-2) took the loss in relief, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk in 2.1 innings. Starter Tyler Krull went just two innings, allowing three runs on five hits, a walk and a strikeout.

UCF 8, Wichita St. 4

Backed by home runs from Matthew Mika and Rylan Thomas, as well as a three-hitter from the pitching staff, host UCF upset Wichita State. It was Thomas' 12th homer of the season. Ray Alej went 3 for 3 with two doubles and three runs scored.

 

SOFTBALL

B-CU 7, FAMU 0

Alexis Bermudez (10-9) and Destiny Enriquez (third save) combined for a shutout, leading Bethune-Cookman (27-24, 12-3 MEAC) past Florida A&M (20-27, 11-4), and securing the top seed for the Southern Division in the upcoming Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament. Jacki Smith went 3 for 4 and Iesha Waters went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

UNF 4, Stetson 0

Sydney Matzko threw a one-hit shutout as host North Florida (24-27, 4-11 ASUN) defeated Stetson (25-21, 3-11). Ashly Smith collected the only hit for the Hatters, a lead-off single in the top of the first.

 

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Jacksonville 21, Stetson 7

Senior Hallie Merz scored two goals in her final game and Rachel Valocchi, Karli Maguire, Riley Reagan, Maddie Holvey and Jaclynn Levy each had one as Stetson (4-13, 1-4 ASUN) concluded its season with a loss at Jacksonville (14-3, 5-0).

NCAA denies Hatters

ASUN Conference Champion Stetson was not selected as one of the eight teams for the NCAA Championship Sunday. The Hatters, who went 27-3 over their final 30 matches, end their season with a 30-8 overall record. The 30 wins snapped the program record.
