Highlights
For students who have a strong inclination towards science should also consider other options apart from engineering. It is not the only career path for science students and they should not limit their potential to a single field. Many students, in fact, have greater aptitudes and may be interested in other courses.
“Students who are from the PCM background can pursue careers as Bachelor’s of Science in either maths, statistics, physics, electronics and other such courses,” says Jaideep Gupta, CEO and Founder of Univariety. He adds that students from PCB backgrounds can even take on BSc is biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, zoology and botany.
One may even change their field of study completely and take up subjects like economics, BCom, BBA, political science, psychology, hotel management, mass communication and journalism.
There were more than 10 lakh students who had appeared for the exam and at least 80 per cent of them will not qualify. If you have found yourself in this predicament, do not panic. Various other options are available which can still help you get the best out of your career and life.

As we wait for the JEE Mains 2018 results, here is an interesting report on the state of education in Gujarat and how engineering as a career option is losing its charm in the state. Only a decade ago, acquiring an engineering degree was the most coveted career choice for students in Gujarat. Students, after clearing their class X board exams, used to flock engineering colleges to take science in their 10+2. But not anymore.
The popularity of engineering degree and diploma courses, including Masters in Computer Application (MCA) has fallen. The students are opting for government and government-aided engineering colleges instead of private institutes. Classrooms are vacant, institutes are shutting down and fewer students are opting for non-medical stream, comprising physics, mathematics and chemistry in their 10+2.
The engineering aspirants who wish to get admissions in the prestigious colleges, they need to secure at least 75 per cent marks in the Class 12 exams or they need to hold the top 20 percentile in their respective state board Class 12 examination. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65 per cent in the 12th class examination.
They should be among the top 2,24,000 (including all categories) in paper-1 of JEE (Main) 2018.
CBSE will announce the results today, however, the timing of the result declaration has not been confirmed. Keeping the past trend in mind, JEE results are released in afternoon or in the evening.
According to experts, the difficulty level of Paper I was moderate, however, students found Physics section tricky and tough and Maths paper lenghty. In all the three subjects, 5-6 questions were framed quite differently.
JEE Mains offline exam was conducted on April 8 and the online exam was held on April 15 and 16. The answer keys for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) 2018 were released by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), on April 24.
