Watson’s knock came off 25 balls and included six sixes and two boundaries. CSK lost other opener Faf du Plessis shortly after Watson brought up his half-century.

In space of 14 balls between overs 4.3 and 6.4 Super Kings hit six sixes -- five of which were hit by Watson, to up the ante after Daredevils had managed to bowl four decent overs in the beginning.

Watson was particularly lethal on Liam Plunkett whom he hit for four sixes during that period. In his first two overs Plunkett conceded 35 runs. They brought the fifty partnerships in 5.2 over to lay the foundation for Super Kings to build on.

Faf Du Plessis was playing anchor’s role as Watson went about shredding Daredevils bowlers. The South African skipper also hit some super shots in between to keep the scorecard ticking.

Watson was eventually dismissed on 78 by Amit Mishra, but by then he had already given his team a solid platform from which to build on. CSK won the match by 13 runs.
