BJP-backed panel wins Tripura Bar Council polls

The ruling BJP and RSS-backed lawyers' panel on Monday won the (TBC) election, securing nine seats in the 15-member Council, an said.

The Communist Party of (CPI-M)-backed lawyers won four seats while outgoing Council and nominee Pijush Kanti Biswas and Independent candidate were re-elected.

Voting for the bar took place on February 28.

Altogether 19 lawyers contested the election and 853 of 1,000 members of the lawyers' body voted to form the new panel of the TBC, which has a three-year term.

Congratulating the newly-elected pro-BJP members, said: "One more step has been taken towards achieving a 'communist-mukt' "

The outgoing Council was governed by a panel backed by the and the CPI-M.
