Three people were indicted in January for allegedly stealing cattle in Clay County.

Brandt Beasley, 38, Shannon Boles, 51, and Ayden Milam, 20, were named in the indictment.

Boles and Milam were each released on $50,000. Beasley remains in custody at the Clay County Jail as of Friday.

The charges stemmed from an incident in 2017.

In August 2017, the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Special Rangers began investigating the case when a rancher contacted the rangers about several missing cattle.

According to a TSCRA release, the rancher did not know at the time of the report if the cattle were stolen or had just gotten out of the pasture.

Upon investigation, the TSCRA ranger discovered a lock that appeared to be tampered with, along with other evidence suggesting theft.

Shortly after the investigation began, a person contacted the ranger saying Milam had reportedly confessed to the cattle theft. Beasley was also named in this conversation.

The ranger confirmed the cattle were sold at Wichita Livestock and also identified Boles as having a role in the theft.

Arrest warrants were issued for the three individuals.

Boles was arrested by Burkburnett Police Department officers, Bealsey was arrested by Archer County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Milam was captured by Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

The three face charges of livestock theft – a third-degree felony.

If convicted, they each face a prison sentence of two to 10 years and other fines and restitution.

“As in this case, information from the public is often vital in solving crimes like cattle theft,” said Bradshaw. “I encourage everyone to stay vigilant and contact their local TSCRA Special Ranger if they see or hear of suspicious activity.”

TSCRA and their rangers offered thanks the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Archer County Sheriff’s Department and Burkburnett Police Department for their assistance in this case.
