NEW DELHI: Shortly after Congress president Rahul Gandhi met RJD chief Lalu Prasad at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), a row has erupted over the latter’s discharge certificate.

In a statement, AIIMS said the RJD supremo’s condition has improved significantly and he was therefore being referred back to the Ranchi Medical College. Doctors at the hospital also said the leader was fit to travel.

The hospital’s move, however, didn’t go down too well with Lalu or his family, with his son Tejashwi Yadav saying the decision was made in “haste.” “Only AIIMS authorities can reveal the reason behind the sudden transfer,” he added, hinting at a more sinister motive behind the decision.

Lalu also wrote expressing his unhappiness with the AIIMS decision, categorically stating he was still not fit enough to return to Ranchi.

Referring to his condition, Lalu explained in his letter, "I don't want to be shifted back to the Ranchi hospital, as that hospital is not properly equipped to treat my ailments."

Not just Lalu and his family, his supported too were upset and staged a protest outside AIIMS soon after the hospital's statement was released.

The RJD chief was admitted to AIIMS on March 29 and a medical team comprising six doctors was formed to decide his course of treatment.

A former chief minister of Bihar, Lalu has been serving a jail term since December 2017 in connection with the fodder scam. He has been convicted in four fodder scam cases since 2013 -- the most recent one being the Dumka treasury case, in which a special CBI court sentenced him to 14 years in jail.
