CSK vs DD IPL 2018 Match 30 preview: Resurgent Delhi take on high flying Chennai in Pune

After getting off to a great start in the post-Gambhir era with a dominant display against Kolkata Knight Riders, the Daredevils now face second placed Chennai.

Moneycontrol News

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on the Delhi Daredevils (DD) in match 30 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the MCA Stadium, Pune on Monday.

Both teams come into the games with contrasting results in their previous outings as CSK lost only their second game this season against the Mumbai Indians (MI), while DD picked up only their second win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

CSK who saw their three-match unbeaten streak end when they last took the field against MI, will be looking to get back to winnings ways as they welcome bottom placed DD.

In their last outing, the CSK batting could not reach their explosive best as they were restricted to just 169, which Mumbai led by captain Rohit Sharma (54*) chased down with ease.

DD who were led by Shreyas Iyer after Gautam Gambhir stepped down as captain, beat the KKR by 55 runs in their previous outing.

New skipper Iyer scored an unbeaten 93 in that game as youngster Prithvi Shaw (62) marked only his second start in the IPL with a dominant batting display as DD posted 219 on the board, the highest total in this season’s IPL.

Delhi who find themselves at the very bottom of the points table, will know that they cannot afford any more defeats if they hope to make the play off spots this season.

Match Details:

Timing – 8 pm

Venue – Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.

Where to watch – Star Sports 1 & Star Sports 1 HD

Head to Head: Chennai by far have been the dominating side against Delhi in the IPL. Out of the 16 times that these two teams have faced each other, CSK have emerged winners on 11 occasions as compared to Delhi’s five.

Team news:

Chennai will be without their pace spearhead Deepak Chahar who has been ruled out for two weeks owing to a hamstring strain he picked up against the Mumbai Indians. Proteas seamer Lungi Ngidi who had flown back home due to his father’s demise has re-joined the squad and will be expected to feature in tonight’s game.

Delhi who finally found the winning formula in their previous outing will not be expected to make any changes to the side that faced the Knight Riders. Gambhir is likely to sit this one out too as the Delhi top order and their bowling attack all performed exceedingly well against KKR.

Prediction: Who will win?

While Chennai look to be a more balanced side, yet the loss of Deepak Chahar and their previous loss against MI have exposed a few chinks in their armour. Delhi who need this win more will be expected to come out all guns blazing once again and might just hold the edge in this encounter.

Stadium Pitch Report: The MCA Stadium always has a good batting wicket on offer and the pitch tonight isn’t expected to be any different. The track also begins to offer some good turn to the spinners as the game unfolds.

Moneycontrol Dream 11: MS Dhoni (wk), A Rayudu, S Iyer, P Shaw, S Watson, D Bravo, G Maxwell, S Thakur, T Boult, A Khan and L Plunkett.

Players to watch out for:

Ambati Rayudu (CSK): The batsman has been in sensational form this season as he has posted scores of 79, 82 and 46 in his previous three outings. CSK will be hoping the current orange cap holder gets them off to another quick start tonight.

Shreyas Iyer (DD): The newly appointed captain has also been in astonishing form this season having reached the half century mark in his previous three outings with scores of 52, 57 and most recently 93*. Delhi will hope their new skipper continues to lead from the front especially on a pitch that greatly favours the batsmen.

IPL points table:

With just two wins from their seven games, Delhi find themselves at the very bottom of the points table with just four points. However, a win tonight could see them move up to fifth on the table. Chennai who were knocked off the top by Hyderabad yesterday, will be looking to reclaim their place on the top with their sixth win of their campaign tonight.
