Haryana to spend `600 crore to improve sewerage, drinking water supply, drainage

In Haryana, sewerage, drinking water supply and drainage system will be improved by spending Rs 600 crore on nine projects in seven towns under second phase of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Scheme, Urban Local Bodies Minister, Kavita Jain, said on Saturday.

She said approval for the projects has been accorded by a high-level committee of the Government and tenders for the same will be invited soon. Under the second phase of AMRUT, a sum of Rs 41.88 crore would be spent for improving the sewerage system in Bahadurgarh, Rs 49.49 crore in Yamunanagar, Rs 57.55 crore in Hisar, Rs 163.09 crore in Rohtak and Rs 99.99 crore in Palwal. Similarly, Rs 95 crore would be spent on improving the drinking water supply system. A sum of Rs 8.13 crore would be spent on the drainage system in Sirsa.

Jain said under the first phase of AMRUT, sewerage system was being improved at a cost of Rs 436 crore in Karnal, Sonipat and Ambala. Presently, an amount of Rs 800 crore is being spent under this scheme. About 180-km sewerage lines would be laid in two years in Karnal at the cost of Rs 178 crore, 10,500 manholes will be made and sewerage connections would be given to 9,216 housesholds. Similarly, 150-km-long sewerage line would be developed by spending Rs 144 crore in Ambala city, 8,875 manholes will be made and 10,879 houses will be given sewerage connections.

In Sonipat, tender for Rs 114 crore has already been allotted for changing the line for drainage of filthy water and laying new lines to cope with the increasing urban population and their smooth operation. Work is apace at different places, she added.
