Home Guards and city police on Saturday took out a motorcycle rally to create awareness on wearing helmet as part of Road Safety Week celebrations.

The rally started near VOC Grounds was flagged off by Police Commissioner K. Periaiah in the presence of Deputy Commissioners of Police Sujit Kumar (traffic) and G.Dharmaraj (headquarters).

Mr. Periaiah also took part in the rally riding a motorcycle with T. K. Dhanashekar, Area Commander of Home Guards of Coimbatore city, as pillion rider.

Flagging off the rally, Mr. Periaiah urged senior officers to organise various road safety awareness programmes and appreciate motorists for good practices.

The rally passed through LIC junction, Lakshmi Mills junction, Women's Polytechnic, Gandhipuram and Dr. Nanjappa Road before ending near VOC Grounds.

As many as 150 Home Guards and around 20 traffic police personnel took part in the rally. Apart from riders, pillion riders, who took part in the rally, also wore helmets.
