Firefighters conduct hydrant maintenance

Ormond Beach firefighters will be inspecting and conducting water flow testing of the City’s fire hydrants from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 1 through Friday, June 15. The flow testing procedure requires firefighters to open fire hydrants and flow water for several minutes to obtain accurate flow pressures. This procedure may cause tap water in the area to become discolored or cloudy. This is a temporary condition that can be corrected by letting the tap water run until clear, which could take a few minutes. If the water remains discolored after a few minutes of flowing, call 386-676-3220.

Master gardeners plan plant clinics

Volusia County’s master gardeners will share spring gardening tips and answer questions during eight plant clinics in May. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up.


1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, 1001 S. Dixie Freeway. A master gardener will offer tips on creating a wildlife sanctuary.
10 to 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, at the DeLand Regional Library, 130 E. Howry Ave. The gardeners will discuss butterfly gardening in celebration of DeLand’s recent designation as Florida’s first “Monarch City USA.”
10 a.m. to noon Monday, May 7, at the Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St.
10 a.m. to noon Monday, May 7, at the Edgewater Public Library, 103 W. Indian River Blvd.
10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Deltona Regional Library, 2150 Eustace Ave. Howard Jeffries will discuss and demonstrate pruning techniques from 11 a.m. to noon.
