Ideals of Constitution under threat: Reddy

Massive rally marks conclusion of 23rd CPI Party Congress

In a fitting finale to the CPI Party Congress, scores of party volunteers took out a massive rally in Kollam on Sunday.

The march was flagged off by CPI State secretary Kanam Rajendran. It started from Cantonment and moved towards Asramam Maidan, the venue of a public meeting marking the conclusion of the five-day event.

S. Sudhakar Reddy who has been re-elected as general secretary led the march along with Kanam Rajendran and Pannian Raveendran. Thousands of red-shirt cadres from various parts of the State participated in the rally, including a number of women volunteers.

Adhering to the party political line, Mr. Reddy called for a broad front of the Left, secular, and democratic forces in his inaugural address. “Narendra Modi has unleashed fascist terror in the country. The principles of Indian Constitution are being sabotaged, as they order what to eat and how to dress,” he said.

He said there had been 786 attacks against Dalits since Modi came to power and we were facing a political situation where even children were raped in the name of religion.

Echoing his words, Mr. Rajendran said the 23rd Party Congress was a landmark event in terms of political and organisational unity.

Party national council member and AISF leader Kanhaiya Kumar said the BJP government was trying to protect the rapists instead of standing with the victims.
