2 college girls drown in Damodar River

Two cousin sisters, both students of BCom who had gone missing since Thursday evening, allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Damodar River near DVC barrage, Kathara in Bokaro district. Local police have recovered bodies on Saturday morning. The parents of the deceased girls are in shock due to the tragic incident, said Inspector cum Officer-in charge Prameshwar Leyangi.

The reason behind the alleged suicides was yet to be determined, and as the post-mortem reports were also waited.

As per the reports, the two girls identified as Simran (18) daughter of Jagdish Ram under Bokaro Thermal police station while other namely Neha daughter of Ashok Ram who came from Kuju, Hazaribagh to her relative recently to attend a family function ,had left from their house on April 26 evening and went towards Kathara and could have jumped into Damodar river, sources said.

At about 10 am on Saturday some locals’ notices that two dead bodies floating in the river and sounded an alarm, and informed the local police .As per reports the both dead bodied tied their left and right hands each other were recovered approximately 100 meters away from barrage.

Police have recovered a suicide letter from their house stated that no one was responsible for their death and also asked the police through the letter that our bodies may be handed over to our parents for last rites.

The local police have registered a case and was questioning the parents of two deceased girls at the time of writing.
