The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) claimed that it has taken action against 396 colleges for violation of norms on conducting classes in summer holidays.
In a statement here, BIE Secretary A. Ashok said raids were conducted on corporate colleges that were conducting classes and students were sent out while notices were served on college managements. He said colleges violating the norms would lose recognition. He said admission notification for Intermediate colleges would be issued on May 21 and admissions made before that would be declared invalid. Permission for hostels has to be taken separately.
On Saturday, about 27 BIE teams conducted raids on 39 colleges in Medchal (19), Hyderabad (9) and Ranga Reddy (12) districts. The checks were supervised by Medchal DIEO Prabhakar, Hyderabad DIEO Jayaprada and Ranga Reddy DIEO Venkya Naik.
Earlier, student unions had put pressure on the BIE, lodging complaints and organising dharnas, seeking action. They alleged that officials were indirectly supporting colleges that admitted students much before issue of the notification.
