Lady Blues rebound to win series

HAWLEY – A day after getting hit hard by Sweetwater, Graham sophomore pitcher Emma Southerland struck out 11 Lady Mustangs, leading Graham to a 6-3 and clinching a Region I-4A bi-district championship. The Lady Blues (22-7) advance to play Stephenville in the area round.

Shortstop Alex Husen led Graham at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a triple, run scored and three RBIs. Freshman Morgan Patterson was 2 for 3 with a run. Southerland spread out seven hits and two walks over seven innings, giving up just one earned run.

Lady Mustangs rally to advance

GRAHAM – Maddie Chalenburg went 4 for 4 at the plate and struck out eight batters as the City View Lady Mustangs once again rallied from an early deficit to defeat Peaster 5-3 in Game 3 of a Region I-3A bi-district series. The Lady Mustangs (21-8) claim the series with a win and move on to face Clyde in the area round.

Chalenburg had a double and scored two runs, while allowing no earned run on three hits and three walks in seven innings.

Peaster led 2-0 after the first inning, but City View scrapped out a single run in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take the lead.

Kori Hurd was 2 for 3 with a run and RBI, while Whitney Zaloski went 3 for 4 with a double and a run.

Brock sweeps Bowie

BOWIE – An RBI single by Brock pitcher Mattye Tyler in the top of the seventh proved to be the difference in the Lady Eagles winning 2-1 and sweeping Bowie in a Region I-3A bi-district series.

Tyler kept the Lady Rabbits in check from the circle, allowing one run on five hits and a walk with eight strikeouts.

Taylor McCarty drove in Bowie's lone run and Katelyn Allison finished 2 for 3.

Lady Cats fall in 3 games

SEYMOUR – The Archer City Lady Cats lost a thrilling Region I-2A bi-district series with Hawley Friday night.

After losing Game 1 Thursday, the Lady Cats edged Hawley 8-7 to send the series to a third and decisive game Friday night. It was Hawley prevailing by a run, 9-8.

Archer City finishes the season 16-11. Hawley (20-9) moves on to play Junction in the area round.

Windthorst had been pushed to a Game 3 Saturday night after losing Game 2 to Anson 14-6. The outcome of Game 3 has not yet been reported.
