Schools in Jaipur to shut at 12.30pm from May 1 due to heatwave

District collector Sidharth Mahajan on Sunday issued a notice directing all government and private-run schools in Jaipur to end classes at 12.30 in the afternoon in view of the increasing heat wave conditions in the city.

The order is, however, not applicable for teachers. The order stated that schools where examinations were being held, will be conducted as per schedule. The order is applicable to all government and private-run schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education.

Heat wave conditions in the city have been aggravating with temperatures soaring more than 43 Celsius in the last two days. The met department said the situation will worsen over the next couple of days.

In the last 24 hours, Bundi district recorded in the highest temperature where the mercury breached the 46.6 degree mark, met officials said.

The met department has predicted light rain or thunderstorm at isolated places in west Rajasthan in the next 24 hours while dry heat conditions is likely to continue in the eastern part of the state.
