As part of its corporate social responsibility program, the Central Electricity Generating Company(CEGCO)has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SOS Children's Villages Association in Jordan. By virtue of the agreement, CEGCO will cover part of the running costs of a family house in SOS Children’s Village Aqaba. This step will contribute to the Association's efforts to secure ‘a loving home for every child’, to enhance their experience of a family atmosphere and to assist them in becoming independent and active members of society.
Through this sponsorship, CEGCO will cover part of the children’s annual needs in terms of education, training, food, clothing, personal expenses, as well as their daily, medical, transportation expenses, in addition to partially covering the administrative expenses of the Village.
On this occasion, Ms. Muna Hamdan, National Director of SOS Jordan, expressed her sincere thanks for CEGCO’s generous donation. “Donations from allies like CEGCO provide our Association with the financial and moral support needed to continue our mission of providing orphans and vulnerable children, lacking parental care, with quality childcare and better living standards.”
In turn, Eng. Thamer Al Sharhan, CEO of CEGCO and a member of ACWA Power, noted the Association’s substantial role in protecting children and providing them with the care they sorely need, which will contribute to cultivating their personalities and securing their futures.
SOS Children’s Villages Jordan is a local non-profit social development organization, established in 1983 with the purpose of providing a dignified life for orphaned children and those who lack family support from the moment they enter the Villages until they graduate to care homes for youth aged 14-18 years old. These youth then become independent, self-reliant and productive individuals, able to serve themselves, their society and their country. The Association cares for around 252 orphaned and vulnerable Jordanian children, in three villages and ten youth houses in Amman, Aqaba and Irbid. The SOS model adopts a family and long-term childcare approach through its various residential, educational and developmental programmes.
