Congress national general secretary Ashok Gehlot today slammed the Rajasthan government for its alleged failure in taking action on private schools charging arbitrary fees.
He said that parents are facing tough times due to 20 to 50 per cent hike proposed by private schools while the government was remaining a "mute spectator".
The former Rajasthan chief minister alleged that the Vasundhara Raje-led state government has turned out to be a "failure" in regulating the fees imposed by private schools, forcing the parents to move High Court.
"Parents have to purchase books, bags, dress etc from schools or from the fixed shops, which charge more than the usual cost.The government should take strict action on the schools charging arbitrary fees," he said.
"Either the government should get the books printed, or fix the maximum price of the books. It seems that the government has given them permission to loot instead of making them follow the law," he added.
Gehlot said that despite being a law in force to regulate the school fees in the state, the government was not able to implement it in spirit.
