Bhopal: Ex-student of AIIMS leader to foot march to Delhi for freedom of speech

Bhopal: Demanding ‘restoration’ of freedom of speech, All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) students’ union former president will start a foot march from the State capital to Delhi on May 3. Beginning his march on World Press Freedom Day, the former student leader Sant Guru Prasad will cover a distance of 800 kms.

Resentment is brewing among the students as there is no one to listen to their grievances and their voices are being suppressed, alleged Guru. Alleging that autocracy is prevailing in AIIMS, Prasad said there is no director at the institute for the last three years.

“If any student raises his voice against any issue either he is silenced by suspension or any official starts intervening. We don’t have our voice in AIIMS. So we want freedom of speech in AIIMS. Previously, at least there was director Dr Sandeep Kumar. But now we do not have director and internal autocrats have projected themselves as bosses, ” alleged Prasad.

AIIMS lack basic infrastructure and many times we have raised this issue, but our voice was suppressed, said Prasad, adding that we want to retain the “Freedom of Speech” in AIIMS. However, he informed that no student will join him in the march as there is attendance problem but they have extended their support.
