RTO inspector’s wife attempts suicide over ‘domestic violence’
Sujit Bhaviskar, who could be suspended if arrested, rubbishes his wife’s allegations saying not possible to get away with such a crime in today’s times.
An inspector at the Nashik Regional Transport Office (RTO) is in the dock after his wife tried to jump in front of a moving train at Andheri station as she was allegedly tired of being subjected to domestic violence. Jayshree, 30, later told RPF personnel that despite her many attempts to file a case against her husband Sujit Bhaviskar, cops never registered anything more than a Non-Cognisable (NC) complaint. “Today, we have laws which prohibit men from even looking at a woman in the wrong way, but women like me have nowhere to go,” Jayshree told Mirror.
Sujit, meanwhile, refuted Jayshree’s claims, telling Mirror, “She has pulled such stunts on several occasions. There are laws in the country which are very powerful for protection of women. So one tends to misuse them.”
On Thursday morning, she reached platform no 1 at Andheri station with her twins, aged one-and-a-half years old, and some of her belongings. She was crying profusely, which drew the attention of an on-duty constable. So, when she tried to jump in front of a moving train, the cop leapt to his feet and pulled her back just in time.
At the RPF post at Andheri station, she said that she tried to end her life as she was beaten up by her husband and in-laws and had nowhere else to go. On Thursday morning, a fight had once again broken out between Jayshree and her mother-in-law, Sunanda Bhaviskar, who allegedly beat her up. She then packed up some of her belongings, took her children and headed to the railway station, where she tried to kill herself.
After being counseled by the cops and volunteers of the NGO Sneha, she finally gathered courage to approach the DN Nagar Police Station yesterday, but once again they only registered an NC complaint “as the senior PI was on leave.”
When Mirror contacted Senior Police Inspector of DN Nagar police station, Parmeshwar Ganme to ask why an FIR was not registered, he said, “It is true I was on leave but that does not mean that a complaint will not be registered. I will send my staff to the woman’s house to get an FIR registered.”
Sujit and Jayshree got married 10 years ago and Jayshree claims, the beatings started soon after. She said that she had tried to register a police case on at least three different occasions, but each time the police would take an NC complaint and ask the couple to get counselled.
In January 2017, an argument between Jayshree and her in-laws took an ugly turn and her husband, who was then posted at Andheri RTO, allegedly beat her up and even dragged her down the building. “Several women from the building were trying to get me out of his clutches but he wouldn’t let me go. Our building was opposite Versova police station so I ran in there. The cops caught him and sent the two of us to DN Nagar police station but yet they did not take my complaint. The asked us to think of our children and patch up,” recalled Jayshree.

“I am a government official and my reputation is at stake. How do you know she genuinely attempted suicide?” A government official could be suspended if he remains in custody for over 48 hours.
