HC directs police official to speak to missing techie’s father

The Karnataka High Court on Friday directed a Superintendent of Police of the Criminal Investigation Department to speak to Ashok Kumar Sinha, who is the father of missing techie Kumar Ajitabh. Justice Raghvendra S. Chauhan passed the interim order after hearing a petition filed by Mr. Sinha, who has sought a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the case of the disappearance of his son.

During the hearing, counsel for Mr. Sinha submitted that the petitioner has not received any ransom call from anyone but expressed anguish that Mr. Sinha, who has gathered some information is finding it difficult to convey the said information to the CID as he was not able to meet the police officials concerned.

Observing that obviously Mr. Sinha is anxious about the welfare of his son, the court directed H.D. Anand Kumar, SP, CID, to speak to Mr. Sinha, if in case the latter tries to meet him in the CID office, and tries to convey any information that may be useful for carrying out further investigation.

Ajitabh has been missing since he left home on December 18, 2017, after receiving a call, apparently from a prospective buyer for his car, which he had offered for sale through a website. Initially, the court had directed the city police commissioner to constitute a special investigation team to trace the petitioner’s son. However, the court later allowed the city police to transfer the case to the CID after the commissioner stated they they were unable to allot more police personnel to probe this particular case due to other priority duties, including the ensuing elections.

Meanwhile, after going through the probe report submitted by the CID, the court granted time till May 28 to the CID to submit further report on the progress made in the investigation.
