PHAGWARA: BJP Mayor of the
Phagwara Municipal Corporation Arun Khosla on Saturday filed a complaint with the police department claiming that certain elements were circulating open threats to him and party legislator
Som Parkash on
social media which needs to be looked into.
Khosla, who had participated in the protest held by the
general samaj against the renaming of the Gol-Chowk to Samvidhan Chowk along with other political leaders on April 24, said he has given a complaint to the cops after he saw a video on social media in which some persons were using derogatory language against him and the party MLA and threatening to eliminate both for protesting against the renaming of the Gol Chowk.
While the Dalits want the chowk to be renamed as Samvidhan Chowk, the members of the general samaj want it to be named after revolutionary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, which had led to clashes in the town, a few days back.
Kapurthala SSP Sandeep Sharma said they had received a complaint and the matter was being looked into.
On April 13, a clash had broken out between members of a Dalit outfit and Hindu “upper caste” right-wing groups when members of the former allegedly installed a board carrying a picture of Ambedkar and the “new name” at the chowk on National Highway-1. Five persons were injured; one of them, Yashwant Bobby, is undergoing treatment in Ludhiana and is stated to be in a serious condition.
