To Civil Service aspirants appearing for UPSC examinations

District central libraries in the state would offer free coaching to civil service aspirants appearing for the Union Public Service Commission examinations from the coming academic year, K. A. Sengottaiyan, School Education Minister, said on Friday.

The free training will be of immense use to aspirants from rural parts to crack other competitive examinations also conducted by the Central Government, he said while addressing a seminar for librarians and representatives of readers’ circles after inaugurating a skill training centre.

The revamped curriculum for levels VI to XI in the State Board was better than the CBSE content. Out of the ₹27,205 crore sanctioned for School Education, ₹262 crore was meant for Department of Public Libraries.

Later, he told reporters that Skill Centre would be equipped with computer software and hardware for online training in communication to enable learners excel in personal interviews and group discussion conducted by recruiting companies.

He warned schools against conducting classes for students during summer holidays. Complaints of such practice by schools would be seriously dealt with. He honoured prize winners of World Book Day competitions.

Ministers Vellamandi N. Natarajan and S. Valarmathi, Collector K. Rajamani, Tiruchi MP P. Kumar, and District Library Officer A.P. Sivakumar were present.
