A team of NIA on Friday arrested CPI-Maoist activist Sushil alias Krish from Chaibasa mufassil area in West Singhbhum district.

Krish who is a resident of Sonua in West Singhbhum was wanted in the JD-U leader and minister Ramesh Singh Munda murder that took place at Tamara in Ranchi district on July 9, 2008.

Krish is one of the seven CPI-Maoist rebels, including dreaded rebel Kundan Pahan who had executed the murder of Munda during a function at a school in Tamar.

Earlier in October last year the NIA had arrested former minister Gopal Krishna Patar alias Raja Peter in the Munda murder case.

Munda (51), a former State Minister, was gunned down by two dozen Maoist rebels, armed with AK-47s, during a public function at SS High School in Bundu, 50km from capital Ranchi, on July 9, 2008, along with his two bodyguards and a student.

Meanwhile, the police and paramilitary forces have also beefed up the naxal infested areas of the district. Sources informed that the police are frisking commuters in the bordering areas.

At some places common people are also being interrogated by police and paramilitary force on suspicion.

Forces have been deployed in strategic locations. The district police have maintained that combing operation in the Maoist infested areas of the district will continue as usual and there is no let up whatsoever.

“Security has been beefed up in the area and they were keeping strict vigil on movement of the Naxalites. The plan is to keep a tab on the camps being operated by ultras,” said another official.
