Pune: Mumbai Indians (MI) will be up against the table-toppers Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Indian Premier League (IPL 2018) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association ground here on Saturday.
Despite being the defending champions, MI is under threat of being knocked out of the race for playoffs with only one win out of six matches played so far. CSK on the other hand has won some nail-biting thrillers this season and has won five out of six matches.
MI must take some tough calls if they want to stay alive in the tournament as most of their permanent players have under-performed this season. Skipper Rohit Sharma has been out of touch apart from a 94-run inning. Hardik Pandya has failed to click with the bat throughout the season so far while Krunal Pandya has also been out of touch.
Kieron Pollard has been misfiring in the lower-order making it almost impossible for MI to get to or chase big totals. MI’s bowling has been fine this season but it never got the support of the batting unit.
CSK on the other hand is having a dream run this season after completing two-year suspension. Ambati Rayudu has emerged as the ‘dark horse’ whom CSK acquired at the IPL 2018 auction from Mumbai Indians.
Skipper MS Dhoni has found his ‘Midas touch’ and is looking at his blistering best this season. He has played some of the best innings of his career during this season. Bowling has been something CSK might be worried about but the immense depth in their batting makes every score possible for them.
MI might not have the winning momentum but they still are a big team which has a habit of emerging from the ashes over the years. So after reaching to a do or die situation, they are capable of turning the tables.
