Sudhakar Reddy to remain CPI head

Panels likely to have new faces

The Communist Party of India (CPI) national council and national secretariat are likely to have several new faces when the 23rd Party Congress concludes, but that would be in the nature of change with continuity, with S. Sudhakar Reddy continuing to helm the party.

The Central secretariat of the party is likely to see some key changes, one of which could be senior leader Pannian Ravindran taking over as chairman of the party’s Control Commission. Former Minister Binoy Viswam is tipped for a slot in the Central secretariat.

Party State assistant secretary Prakash Babu, former Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran, and Pathanamthitta district secretary P. Prasad are among those who could get picked to the party Central council. Overall, there is the possibility of many younger faces from different parts of the country getting the look-in when the Central council is reconstituted.

Ismail’s case

Former Minister K.E. Ismail may well be retained in the Central secretariat despite the Control Commission examining certain charges against him.

The State party leadership is not inclined to adopt a vindictive stand and would rather leave it to the leadership to decide on the matter, a leader said.
