Awards instituted for scholars

The government has introduced the ‘Kairali Research Awards’ with an aim to encourage the most eminent research scholars and pedagogues in the State.

The awards have been introduced under three categories, viz., Kairali Gaveshaka Puraskaram, Kairali Gaveshana Puraskaram and Kairali Lifetime Achievement Award.

A selection committee, which will be chaired by P. Balaram, former chairman, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, has been constituted for the purpose. Economist Prabhat Patnaik, astrophysicist Thanu Padmanabhan, E.D. Jemmis, Professor of Theoretical Chemistry at the IISc Bengaluru, and poet and critic K. Satchidanandan have been nominated as its members.

The Kerala State Higher Education Council has been designated the Secretariat for the research awards.
