At least nine people were killed in two separate road accidents in Surendranagar and Rajkot districts today, police said.
In the first accident, five persons lost their lives, while five others sustained grievous injuries when a dumper hit their car at Sardhar town near Rajkot, police said.
The truck was going towards Bhavnagar when it collided with the car, police said.
"Three persons were killed on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries at Rajkot civil hospital," inspector of Aji Dam police station, P N Vaghela said.
A complaint has been lodged against the truck driver, who fled from the spot after the accident and efforts are on to nab him, he said.
In the second incident, four persons from the same family were killed when their car was hit by a dumper on Rajkot-Ahmedabad national highway in Surendranagar this afternoon, police said.
The deceased were coming from Chandarva in Chuda tehsil of Surendranagar district to attend a marriage function, a police official at Chuda police station said.
"While three persons died on the spot, another one died at Limdi civil hospital. One injured person is undergoing treatment," he said.
The driver of the dumper fled from the spot, he said.
