Mumbai-based Travelxp, a leading travel-related online channel, will enter the U.K. market through Freeview digital terrestrial technology-based platform from Monday, according to a top official.

“Freeview platform has helped us become the first Indian TV channel to beam travel-related content for the U.K. mainstream audiences,” said Prashant Chothani, chief executive officer, Travelxp. “We will produce local content through our U.K. production house [which is] to be opened soon.” In the last seven years, Travelxp has grown to provide content to almost 91 million TV homes and it hopes to touch 100 million soon. Plans were on to double it 200 million TV homes by 2021.

“We are not promoting tourism or aligned with tourism departments. Our aim is to be a influencer of travel space by showing food, destinations, culture and lifestyle. Right now, we are covering top three inbound markets for India. Very soon, we will be covering top 10 markets that includes, Europe, Canada, Latin America and North America,” said Nisha Chothani, director, Travelxp.

While declining to divulge financials, Mr. Chothani said they had license to telecast content in 45 countries. Very soon, Travelxp would open production offices in East Europe, North America and Latin America. They have 1,000 hours of content and it was telecasted in local languages.

He also said Travelxp was the global leader in 4K HDR technology and all the shows on the channel were produced in-house.

In India, Travelxp airs Tamil travel and lifestyle channel. Soon, it would be extended to Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu and Marathi languages.

Asked about the future plans, Ms. Chothani said Travelxp would be available on the digital platform too.
