Saniya finishes 22nd

Saniya Sheikh shot 111 and missed the women’s skeet final by seven points in the shooting World Cup in here on Saturday.

After shooting rounds of 22 and 20, Saniya, who had placed fourth in the Commonwealth Games, shot three rounds of 23 to eventually place 22nd among 58 shooters.

Three-time Olympic champion, former World champion Kimberly Rhode won her 17th World Cup gold and second of the season with a world record 58 out of 60 in the final.

In the last World Cup in Mexico, Kimberly had shot a qualification world record of 122 out of 125 and 56 out of 60 in the final.

In men’s skeet, Sheeraz Sheikh started well with rounds of 25 and 24, while Smit Singh (48) and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa (47) followed close behind him in a field of 81 shooters.

In the mixed trap competition earlier, the Indian pair of Manavjit Singh Sandhu and Shreyasi Singh had placed 10th with 139 and missed the final by two points from among 39 teams.
