Close on heels of the lodging of an FIR over recruitment scam in UP Jal Nigam, Rampur district administration on Friday issued notice to Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan for allegedly buying land of a member of Schedule Caste for his private university.

The notice was issued after Akash Saxena, son of former minister and BJP leader Shiv Bahadur Saxena, lodged a complaint with Chief Minister, Yogi Minister.

On March, the district administration filed 10 cases against Khan. As per provisions of UP Land Reforms and Zamindari Abolition Act, the title ownership of land registered in the name of a Schedule Caste can not be transferred to any other person without the prior approval of the competent authority.

Official sources said that when Khan was a cabinet minister from 2012-2017, the land belonging to a schedule caste person was included in Jauhar university campus.

On  October 23, 2017, DM of Rampur referred the matter to Chairman, Board of Revenue recommending action against the former minister and registration of a case against him.

Earlier on Wednesday, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of UP Police lodged FIR against Khan and four others in connection with a recruitment scam in Jal Nigam.
